Cyanotype is a non-toxic, simple, photographic printing process that produces a characteristic blue image when a sensitized surface (paper, fabric, etc.) is exposed to UV light.

In this workshop, you will learn about the history and significance of cyanotype as well as the chemical process involved in making a photogram or contact print. After a brief demonstration, you’ll get to experiment with various techniques to create your own unique prints. All participants will leave with their own series of handmade prints and the skills to create more!

What To Bring:
No experience necessary! Cyanotype is a simple and easy process!
All materials are provided, however, participants are encouraged to bring flat objects with various textures and shapes (lace fabrics, flowers, plants, feathers, etc.). Additionally, we are offering a complimentary digital negative of a photograph of your choice that will allow you to customize your cyanotype during the workshop. Please e-mail the photograph one week in advance. Email address will be provided after registration is complete.

Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in a community art show at Ebsco on the weekend of May 4-5. Titled “Out of the Blue” this exhibition is part of a town-wide collaborative project between the Ipswich Art Association and Ipswich Museum.
